Identifying ourselves is more difficult than we think. We usually use our
ID cards or PINs, which we should keep secret. But there have been frequent
illegal ATM withdrawals from individual bank accounts by using fake cards
lately. This has created more concern about the existing ID systems. Thus
biometrics has come into the limelight.
Biometrics is a technology to check our identity with our individual physical
characteristics. The technology uses pre-registered data to identify each
of us. The conventional biometric ID systems adopted our face, fingerprint,
palm print, ear shape, iris, and voiceprint. But nowadays the veinous patterns
of a palm or finger are in wider use than fingerprints. Only the palm or
finger of a living human is valid. Therefore deceiving those biometric
ID systems is almost impossible. But there is no security system that people
cannot crack, provided they spend much time and money on thier endeavor.
