Tenshin Okakura's "The Book of Tea" Japanese artist and art critic Tenshin Okakura wrote "The Book of Tea" in English and published it in the United States about a century ago. He introduced Japanese culture through tea ceremony. He described in his book the aesthetics of living in harmony with nature during the turbulent Russo-Japanese War period. Westerners learned about a meditating tearoom that was beyond their faltering material civilization. Tenshin Okakura noted that the masters of tea ceremony and flower arrangement thought it shameful to carelessly cut down the branches that they did not need to.
